Google Pixel 2 FAQs

How does the eSIM technology work on the Pixel 2?

You can use Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL without a SIM card, if you’re a Project Fi customer - Google’s own network. This technology has only previously been used in tablets and smartwatches, but is now available through Google’s smartphones.

What is the Pixel 2 Active Edge squeeze feature?

The Active Edge feature is built around Pixel 2’s pressure-sensitive sides. By squeezing the phone, you can launch Google Assistant. And you can set how sensitive you want the edges to be, so you don’t accidentally launch the assistant when fishing the phone out your pocket.

What is Google Lens?

Google Lens is an artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which works through Pixel 2’s camera. It understands what it’s ‘looking at’, and can then give you more information through the power of Google. A few examples might be a landmark, or a species of plant.

What is the ‘always on’ display feature?

The always-on display is pretty much what it says on the tin. Instead of Pixel 2’s screen going completely black when you’re not using, you’ll always be able to see the time and any unread notifications.

This feature can be disabled through the phone’s setting if you don’t want it.

Is the Pixel 2 waterproof?

Pixel 2 is classed as water-resistant, certified as IP67. This means it will be fine if you get caught in a quick downpour, but you shouldn’t dunk it in the bath.

Does Pixel 2 have wireless charging?

Unlike some other smartphones, Pixel 2 doesn’t support wireless charging.

Does Pixel 2 have expandable storage?

Yes and no. Pixel 2 doesn’t support the typical microSD card expansion for extra storage, however it does offer unlimited storage through Google Photos and Google Drive. So you should never be short on space when capturing and saving the memories.

What are the main features of Pixel 2’s camera?

Pixel 2 has one of the best smartphone cameras ever made. It uses dual-pixels to capture professional-looking shots with a blurred background through a mode called Portrait Mode. And you can record video in glorious 4K.

What separates Pixel 2 from Pixel 2 XL?

There aren’t many differences between Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The main thing that differentiates the two is the display size and resolution. Pixel 2 has a 5-inch Full HD screen, compared to Pixel 2 XL’s super tall 6-inch Quad HD panel.

Does Pixel 2 work with Daydream View VR headset?

Both Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are the perfect accompaniment to the 2017 version of the Daydream View VR headset.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have phone! I bought this phone in January 2018 it now October and it's the best phone I've ever had! Moved from IPhone as just wanted to try something different and was amazed at the great operating system so easy to use and super fast! The camera is unbelievable!! It may have bezels and no wireless charging but with the way the phone is I just don't care!! The only downside for me is no headphone jack but pairs up really well with my blue tooth headphones so got used to that within weeks of having it .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Phone Having been an Apple user for may years, I was apprehensive. No need to be at all. The phone is amazing - it's more usable than the iPhone, has a better feel for me. The camera is amazing and people default to my phone for pics rather than iphones. Would defo recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fantastic phone but... I have had this phone for almost a year now and I can say this is an amazing phone. Now I just want to point out I would 110% give this phone a five star rating but there is one fault that lets it down. To start with, this phone has so many great aspects to it. It has arguably one of the best cameras on the market, performance is top notch along with the stock and fluid software which just flows btw. It is extremely easy to use and has great front firing speakers. The battery is above average and will last you a day depending on your usage. Charging is very quick. The list goes on and there is so much positive I can say about the Google pixel 2. However there is a major fault which lets it down for me. This phone always emits a high pitched whine when placed near your ear. This gets worse when the battery gets lower. The whine is ALWAYS there even with the screen off. It is bothersome and I love this phone but... I just wished it never has this issue which has been plaguing it from the start. Now I know what you might be thinking "Your phone is probably just faulty". Well, I have been through multiple replacements and RMAs but they each have one issue in common - the high pitched whine. Now I do want to say Google did "address" this issue and the whine is no longer there during phone calls (which is how I discovered this problem) but out of phone calls it remains and it annoys me so much. If you are in love with this phone (rightly so) I would recommend getting the larger version as I've heard the issue does not plague the Google pixel 2 XL. I first contacted Google which was a mistake. With carphones infamous policies and customer service, I should've instantly took it back for a return or an exchange but live you learn. I wanted a return but all CPW could do at that point was a replacement which I accepted. However once the replacement also had it, I went back and all CPW could do was another replacement. As you may be able to tell, I was stuck in a cycle. All I wanted was a return as this was clearly a manufacturers fault and no matter how many replacements I received they would all have the issue. Unfortunately carphones warehouse was not able to see this and I wasted so much time. They wouldn't give me a return (or EVEN AN EXCHANGE) so eventually I gave up and am stuck with the phone to this day. I am here now and I just want to say I wish I would've bought the larger version which apparently doesn't suffer from this same issue. But I wanted to voice the issue with this phone to genuinely warn people about the issue. Its a shame Google let me down as this is my first android phone after switching from Apple and I was extremely excited.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Camera... Not so good messaging. I bought this about 3/4 months ago, and for a while I really loved it... All the pictures were so crisp and it was lovely to play around with all the options. Having changed from an iPhone I was no stranger to messaging apps crashing, but if there was a competition for worst texting phone, I think this one just might take the biscuit. If you don't frequently text people, it should be alright, but I tend to text people several times a day and it crashes on me every time. So if you're looking for a good camera, and only really use social media apps, you will be okay. But if you're a prolific texter, I would suggest you get something more reliable.
