A world-first
The 4K HDR screen on the Xperia XZ Premium is a massive jump for mobile. Using the same technology that’s in Sony’s BRAVIA TVs, the picture quality is incredible. And, through a partnership with Amazon Prime Video, you’re able to stream 4K content straight to the mobile.
Camera
Time to slow down
The 19MP sensor has a lot going on. Not only does Sony’s predictive capture technology let you focus on things before you even press the shutter button, but you can also shoot video at 960 frames per second. This is super slow-mo, letting you see things even the human eye can’t.
Under the hood
More power
On the inside of the XZ Premium, there’s the new Snapdragon 835 processor, alongside 4GB RAM. This combo will make sure the 4K HDR display, and all your favourite apps, run smoothly. And the camera has its own processor too, to make the impressively quick frame rate possible.
Battery to last all day long
With a 3,230mAh cell capacity, the Xperia XZ Premium guarantees battery durability. But if you do find yourself in a tough spot, smart STAMINA mode will kick in. It’s able to predict how long your battery will last - based on average usage - warn you early if you’re using excess charge, and limit power-hungry apps to keep you going until you can plug in.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium faqs
Yes, the Sony XZ Premium comes with a fingerprint scanner that’s built into the power key on the side of the phone. It’s neatly tucked away on the right hand side of the XZ Premium so sits nicely under your thumb or finger depending on which hand you’re holding it with. All you need to do is lightly press on the button to unlock your phone with ease.
There are three different slow motion modes to choose from on the Sony XZ Premium. The first option that records at 120 frames per second (fps) then lets you add the slow motion effect onto your video after you’ve finished recording.
The Super Slow (one-shot) mode captures a 5second video at 960fps, this doesn’t let you edit the slow motion section of your video after you’ve captured it.
Finally, there’s the Super Slow Motion mode, which is the bells and whistles option. Once you’ve selected that mode, you hit record and you’ll be filming at a normal rate, 720p. The big difference here though is there’s an additional button included on the screen, simply tap this at any point during recording and the XZ Premium will capture a super-slow-motion clip before resuming normal recording. It can be difficult to get the timing right using this option however, so we’d always plump for the Super-Slow (one-shot) mode.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the second Sony smartphone to boast an impressive 4K display and is one of the flashiest screens on the market.
To get technical, this provides a resolution of 3840 x 2160, which across the 5.4-inch display gives you amazing clarity and a pixel density of 807 pixels per inch (ppi). What that jargon means is that it’s one of the sharpest screens on a smartphone and gives you crystal clear images in high definition across your entire phone, whether you’re watching a 4K video, perusing the web or browsing your social channels – everything you do is in 4K and is immensely crisp and bright.
No, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium doesn’t come with wireless charging, however there are plenty of charging docks that you can sit the smartphone on to give you instant charge without messy cables.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with a 3,230mAh battery, which the manufacturer boasts will easily last a full day with moderate use.
Because the high resolution screen can be a battery drain, the XZ does have a nifty Stamina power-saving mode and Ultra Stamina mode, which are great if you’re stuck without a power socket near-by. In reality the XZ performs similarly to most other flagship smartphones and will need a daily recharge.
Yes, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with an IP68 rating which means it’s dust and water resistant. It’ll handle a dip in the bath and can be used without problem in heavy rain as it can withstand being submerged in up to 1 metre of fresh water, however it’s not going to survive a deep sea dive.
The Sony XZ Premium uses a Nano SIM, which means you can’t use an adaptor with any other size SIM. If you don’t have a Nano SIM you’ll need to call your network or go in-store and request a new Nano SIM.
