Wireless charging is just what it sounds like- a charger that doesn’t need you to plug your phone into it! Instead, you use a wireless charging pad. The pad is plugged into a power source and you can just lay your phone on or near the pad to start charging.
But it will only work if your phone’s compatible with wireless charging. To check, look at the product specs before you buy your phone or ask someone in-store. If your phone isn’t compatible with wireless charging though, don’t worry! You can often get special adaptors for your phone to make it work.
Fast charging is where the voltage and amperage is increased so that your phone can recharge its battery way more quickly than with your standard charger.
To fast charge, you need not just a special fast charging plug, but the right kind of phone too. And loads of phones support it now- like iPhones 8 and up, a whole load of Samsung phones and Google Pixels too. But the best way to check is to take a look at your specific phone’s specs before you buy.
First thing’s first- a power bank is a portable battery that you can use to charge your phone when you’re out and about without a regular wall plug to connect to. They can be really handy when you have a busy day or for things like festivals.
But it’s really important to get a good quality power bank. One with the wrong voltage (above or below 5V) can damage your phone’s battery or circuitry. And, yes, a bad quality power bank can be very unsafe when overcharged. So make sure you do your research when buying a power bank and buy from a trust-worthy place!
There are quite a few different phone cables around, like micro USB, USB C and the iPhone lightning cable. iPhone’s pretty straightforward – if you have an Apple device it’s likely you’ll need one of their lightning cables. With other phones it gets a little more complicated. Again, the easiest way to check is to take a look at the product specs for your phone.
MagSafe is a special type of wireless charging tech built specially for Apple’s iPhone 12 line-up. A MagSafe charger uses magnets so that the phone snaps onto the wireless charging pad in just the right position to get the most efficient charge. MagSafe’s only available for the iPhone 12 family at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the future.
Not necessarily. You’ll need a Qi-compatible charging pad, mat or stand, since this is the type of wireless charging tech that Apple use. And even then, you might get mixed results with some of them. Your best bet is to check the product specs before you buy any wireless chargers to make sure they’re compatible with Apple devices.
Once you’ve got the right wireless charger though, it’s just a case of laying your Airpod charging case on the mat and waiting for the green light to flash on for a couple of seconds.
