If you’re not very good with technology - maybe even a self-confessed technophobe - mobile phones could be tricky pieces of kit. You might get stuck trying to do something, maybe you get frustrated and give up. Or you try to find a solution online but none break down the solution into simple enough steps, so you get frustrated and give up. What you really need is someone to patiently walk you through how to use your mobile phone.
Or you might be great with gadgets yourself but have somehow ended up as tech support for the whole family, helping your elderly parents with their technology problems. You’re probably happy to help with technology when you’re able but it can get a bit much. What you really need is somewhere to outsource the work.

To give you a flavour of what we can help you with, we’ve answered some of our most frequently asked questions.
How to set up email on your phone will depend on what phone you have. Here we’ll look at the three main built-in mail apps: Apple iOS, Samsung, and Gmail.
Before you start, make sure you have the Samsung email app downloaded on your phone.
Most other Android phones use the Gmail app as the default mail app.
To change mobile network, all you have to do is request a PAC code - if you want to keep your current phone number - or STAC code - if you want a new number - from your current provider and pass it on to your new provider. The easiest way to do this is by texting PAC to 65075 or STAC to 75075. Your new provider will arrange for the switch to be completed, usually within one working day. And from April 2023, you will be able to select which day that is.
If you’re keeping your handset, it may be locked to your current network so you’ll need to know how to unlock a mobile phone. All you have to do is contact your current network and they should unlock your phone for free if you’re out of contract, but bear in mind it can take up to 10 days.
Before you start transferring data between phones, it’s always a good idea to back up your phone. An iPhone can be backed up to iCloud or a computer, and an Android can be backed up to your Google account.
Transfer data from iPhone to iPhone using Quick Start - all you need is a WiFi connection, Bluetooth turned on, and the two phones next to each other.
To transfer data from Android to iPhone, you’ll need to download the Move to iOS app on your Android. On your new iPhone choose Set Up Manually on the Quick Start screen, then Move Data from Android on the Apps & Data screen.
To free up storage space on your phone:
Your phone isn’t constantly checking for the best phone signal as it would waste the battery. So, if you find yourself with a bad signal, a quick way to check if there’s a better one is to switch on Airplane Mode, wait for 10 seconds and switch it off again. Your phone will then check for the best signal.
If you have a bad signal in your home, it might be worth investing in a signal booster. These work best when there’s a good outdoor signal.
How to add credit to your Pay As You Go phone depends on your network provider, but for most you can call them or top up online. You can also top up at most supermarkets, post offices, corner shops, and cash-machines.
Turn on your personal hotspot to allow other devices, such a laptop, to use your mobile phone as a modem. For iPhone, go to Settings > Personal Hotspot. And for Android, go to Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering > Wi-Fi hotspot.
To use your mobile phone to pay, you need to set up Apple Pay on your iPhone or Google Pay on your Android. Then you use your phone as you would a contactless payment card.
