If you're out of contract, you can switch providers for free. You should be able to get your contract end date by going to your network's app on your phone, online or by giving them a call. If you're mid-contract, it could be expensive to cancel early.

You can ask for a unique switching code - either online or by text - which you'll then pass onto your new network. They'll make sure the switch is completed within one working day. Your unique switching code is valid for 30 days, so you can pass onto your new provider when placing your order.

If you're out of contract with your current provider, you can switch to a new network with no charge. And if you're on a rolling SIM Only contract, you can switch at any time, as long as you give your provider 30 days notice.

In the past, one of the things that may have put you off switching providers is the fact that you have to speak to your current provider to do so. You won't have to do that any more - simply ask for a unique switching code by text and pass it onto your new provider, who'll arrange for the switch to be completed within one working day.

If you've come to the end of your contract, but your phone is still working and you want to keep it, a SIM Only contract could be ideal. You could save a lot of money, as you'll just be paying for calls and data rather than paying off a new handset. Also, if you choose a one-year deal or even a one-month contract, it'll give you more flexibility.

If you don't want to keep your number, text one of two short codes to your provider (the other is for people who do want to keep their number). Your provider will then text you straightaway with a cancellation code. The unique switching code will be valid for 30 days.
