Design and display

High dynamic range

The Xperia XZ1’s 5.2-inch Full HD screen is HDR, which stands for high dynamic range. This brings out a huge range of colours you wouldn’t have previously been able to see on a smartphone screen, making for a brilliant, crystal-clear viewing experience.

Sophisticated design

Sony’s iconic smartphone design fits perfectly in the hand, and the metal body is both sturdy and good-looking. And when it comes to protection, you can rest-assured the screen won’t easily take on damage, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Camera

Motion Eye™

The Motion Eye™ tech in this Sony handset is taken straight from the company’s range of digital cameras. The 19MP G Lens works together with a range of sensors to create and capture perfect photos in the most challenging conditions.

Super slow-mo

The XZ1’s party trick is its super slow-motion video capture, at 960 frames per second (fps). This incredible frame rate lets you see things the human eye can’t even process, revealing the intricate details in life you mightn’t have otherwise been able to appreciate.

Under the hood

Hi-Res audio

The speakers on the XZ1 are 40% louder than the previous model’s, and really bring your music to life. For an even finer-tuned listening experience, however, connect a pair of digital noise-cancelling headphones, to really take advantage of the power of Hi-Res audio.

Top-level performance

On the inside of the smartphone, there’s Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. It will make sure you’ll be able to enjoy smooth-running, impressive graphics in all your games. And with 4GB RAM you’ll be able to do lots of things at once without slowing down.

3D Creator

A new tool for the Xperia range is the 3D Creator app, which lets you scan real-life objects using the camera, to produce a three-dimensional render.

Sony Xperia XZ1 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning new phone So this is my third Xperia and a huge step up from my Z5 compact. The larger screen has fantastic clarity for videos and photos. The battery seems to be much improved thanks to the smart charger. I also like the enhanced camera and functions which have been added. I am still finding my way around all of the functions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a tidy upgrqade from the Z5 I just had the phone yesterday and i am well impressed by it, all easy to set, not got used to the 3d image, but not to worry no biggy tbh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of kit I haven't had a Sony for quite a few years, and the new phone impresses me a lot. Really quick to get up and working from out of the box, everything easy to re-install from the play store. Fits nicely in the hand, on button/fingerprint scanner placed well. Uncluttered interface, with a decently customisable launcher. Camera a breeze to use, and am glad to see the shutter button still there. Great sound & screen, the Sony enhancements make the difference. Oreo quite different from Nougat, needs a little getting used to and some App developers need to catch up a little. Sim/SD slot a little fiddly, but it's not something that needs opening a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking phone packed full with features Been using the phone for nearly a week now and plenty of cool features to get Into. The response rate is brilliant and although the batter is slightly smaller than than the xz it can still offer a good 1-1.5 days use depending on usage. 3d feature is great fun although more of a gimmick than a useful feature. The screen quality is lovely with nice vibrant colours and the camera shooting is nice and easy too. Tested the smile detection which seemed to work fairly well although not something I'd make a habit of using All in all a great phone
