iOS 11 is full of new features. It really opens up the possibilities of augmented reality (AR), with a little bit of help from Apple’s A11 Bionic chip, for next-level games and experiences. There’s a brand new App Store for iPhone and iPad, to make discovering the best new apps a breeze. And Siri has seen an upgrade too – through advanced machine learning, the virtual assistant can help you with more than ever before.
The latest version is iOS 11. As updated versions are released, such as iOS 11.1 or 11.2, you'll receive a notification to download them on your iPhone.
When you're due an iOS update, you'll receive a notification on your iPhone. You can either start the download straight away or delay it, as the device has to be connected to Wi-Fi and have the charger attached. Don’t worry if you forget, as you’ll keep getting reminders until you’ve updated. If you want to start the download manually, follow these steps:
• Go to Settings
• Scroll down and press General
• Press Software Update
• Press Install Now at the bottom of the screen
All of the most recent Apple devices support iOS 11, working with iPhone 5s, iPad mini 3 and iPod pro second gen or higher. Devices such as iPhone 5 or 5c are not supported. If you want to check manually, then follow these steps:
• Go to Settings
• Scroll down and press General
• Press Software Update
• If iOS 11 is listed, press Install Now at the bottom of the screen
If it's a newer device with good processing power, such as iPhone 6 or 6s, then iOS 10 should in fact speed the device up and make it better to use. In the unlikely event that your device does slow down, then try freeing up some of the memory by deleting old photos, videos or apps you no longer use.
Back up your data by following these instructions:
• Connect your device to Wi-Fi
• Go to Settings
• Press iCloud
• Scroll down and press Backup
• If it isn’t already, make sure iCloud Backup is switched on - in future, your device will be backed up automatically
• Press Back Up Now at the bottom of the screen
