Design and display

Everything we love about Microsoft

One of the best things about Microsoft is its versatility. And within the 950 XL we have the top of the range. It’s slim, strong, premium and a pleasure to use.

Quality Quad HD

Forget about Full HD, the world has moved on, and so has Microsoft. The 5.7-inch Quad HD display is a treat for the eyes, with a remarkable 518 pixels per inch.

Camera

The purest view

Lumia is back with the 20MP PureView camera, and it’s now better than ever with a triple LED natural flash alongside and 4K video-recording capabilities. Do more with your photographs, perfect for both amateurs and total pros.

Wide-angle selfies

Struggling to get everyone in the selfie frame, and wish you had longer arms? Worry no more, with the wide-angle 5MP front-facing camera.

Under the hood

More power

A titanic 3,340mAh battery keeps the Lumia 950 XL going, making sure it’ll be with you all day and night. There’s Fast Charging on board too, providing 50% charge from just half and hour plugged in the wall.

Under the hood

With that massive 5.7-inch Quad HD, you’ll need all the power you can get. Thankfully there’s a powerful octa-core processor behind the 950 XL, which will allow you to do just that, and will help deal with multitasking and using large apps.

USB Type-C

You will notice that the charging port for the Lumia 950 XL is a different shape. That’s because it works with the new USB Type-C connection, meaning it can charge faster, transfer data more efficiently, and that it’s ready for the future. It’s also symmetrical, so you can forget about annoyingly getting it upside down.

Work with Microsoft Continuum

Microsoft Continuum is a smart gadget that works as a middleman between the 950 XL and your computer or TV. By putting them all together, you can lift the Windows 10 experience from your mobile, and broadcast it onto a larger screen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by pigeon from dont buy if you want to take videos dont buy if you want to take videos, the camera works for a while then stops saving the recorded video file or its corrupt, i and many others have lost a lot of videos due to this know problem by microsoft and nokia with these windows phones who have no resolution to it other than back up your phone and do hard reset on phone that will only fix it for a while before it happens again without warning and you will only find out after you finnished recording that you have another corrupt file, google it and you will find it is a big problem with these phones so if you want a phone that will record and save your videos dont bother with these windows phones there only good for phone calls and txt messages

Rated 5 out of 5 by russc from Easily the best phone i've had! I'll declare it up front...I've a WinPho fan. I've had Windows phones for years - dating right back to the original Orange SPV. I've also had Android (Xperia X) and iOS (iPhone6S) phones along side as my work doesn't seem to want to provide a "work-oriented" phone like a Lumia. I've had this phone for 4 months now. There are a few things that make it shine. Firstly, I can get up to 2 days of moderate-to-high use between charges which is important if you're out and about. I also carry a spare battery which takes less than 30 sec to swap-out - you can't do that with the Sony and the Apple! Whilst the 32Gb is generous, I've also popped in a 128GB microSD card so I carry all my music with me and quite a few videos so I'm never bothered by wifi limits or mobile data if i'm stuck in a hotel and need entertaining - you can't do that with the iPhone!. The screen is AMAZING. It's usable in all but the very brightest of sunshine. The camera is also the best I've ever used on a phone. I took a photo from the top of a tallish building the other day across some roof-tops. I noticed a small poster in the window of one of the houses a couple of hundred metres away. Because the Win10 eco-system works so well, when go back to the hotel, I opened my PC and the photo was already there on OneDrive and I could zoom in and read the large print on the poster! Win10 is now a proper mobile OS. Sure it's taken a few upgrades to get there, but it's there. It's smooth and responsive and a very intuitive. I've just bought my 85 yo technophobic mother-in-law a Lumia650 and she has picked up the rudimentary operations very quickly. Whilst its plastic/polycarbonate case is derided by some, it's of really high quality and feels excellent in the hand - I have a Mozo chrome/leather case for when I want it to be smart (sad or what?). The QI wireless charging works extremely well. I have a QI phone stand on my desk and in the kitchen so all I need to do is drop it on there when I'm at my desk or cooking so I always have a charged phone when not out and about. I love this phone so much that I'm about to buy another to keep as a backup for when I inevitably break this one. As for the "app gap", yes it's true, it exists :-( but in all honesty I can survive without Grindr or Gaydar apps! ;-) Windows 10 "universal platform" developments will definitely help developers make the transition so there is light at the end of the tunnel! You wont regretbuying this phone. Honest!

Rated 5 out of 5 by spurs1975 from Superb mobile! Had this phone for almost a year now and to be honest would not be without it. Always been a fan of Microsoft phones don't understand peoples hang up with them. I left 3 because they would not supply this brilliant mobile. Very easy to navigate round, camera superb plus app store coming on these days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brummie from Great Windows 10 Very happy with mobile. Screen and camera quality is amazing. Has all the necessary apps that you would need. Turns in to PC when connected to screen due to continium feature.
