    Recently launched HUAWEI smartphones run on Android 10 Open-Source, using Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and the latest EMUI 10.1. Google Apps and Google Mobile Services are not available for recently launched HUAWEI smartphones which may result in some other apps not being available or compatible at the moment.

    One easy way to transfer your apps - From social media, banking apps to news Apps and many, many more - contacts, data, files and photos from your old smartphone to your new smartphone, in a few simple steps. Install the Phone Clone app (available on the AppGallery, Google Play Store and App Store) on your old phone and select ‘Old phone’. Open the same app on your new Huawei smartphone and select ‘New phone’ specifying the brand of phone you are transferring data from – Huawei, Android and iPhone.

    What operating system will this device have?

    The new Huawei P40 Series will come with pre-installed Android 10 AOSP (Android Open Source Project) with EMUI10, Huawei's self-developed platform.

     

    The devices will also have the Huawei AppGallery pre-installed, which is the official app distribution platform for Huawei smartphones and tablets, it is the 3rd largest app marketplace in the world available in more than 170 countries. It is an app store where users can easily and securely discover, find and download thousands of apps from around the world.

    What is the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS)? And how is it different to Google Mobiles Services (GMS)?

    Both HMS and GMS are running Android Open Source Project (Android system) and they both support Android apps. However, some Android apps that require Google support won’t work properly on the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) platform.


    Huawei is working with global app developers to continuously improve the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) platform to offer premium user experience.

    Will the absence of Google Mobile Services (GMS) affect me from using Facebook, Twitter and other apps?

    Yes, however, this is largely dependent on the app you desire and how you choose to install it.

     

    Huawei has many apps in the Huawei AppGallery, however, it is recommended you transfer most of your existing apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Spotify via the Phone Clone app from your current handset to your new Huawei device.

     

    There are also download links for some apps like Facebook and WhatsApp, which can be found in the AppGallery, or you can download them directly from their websites.

     

    Not all apps will have been optimised by developers for Android AOSP therefore individual app experiences may vary.

     

    There will be some Google apps like Google Maps, Photos and Gmail that are not supported, though there are alternatives, such as TomTom or HERE for navigation, and Gmail can still be accessed via Huawei Email, which comes pre-installed on your device.

    How do I get my apps onto my Huawei device without the Google Play Store?

    Huawei recommend you transfer most of your existing apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Spotify via the Phone Clone app from your current handset to your new Huawei device.

     

    If you have not used Phone Clone, choose not to, or are a new user seeking your favourite apps, an app has been released through Huawei AppGallery called "MoreApps" - this app will allow you to search for and download top apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Spotify and Amazon. Search for this app in Huawei AppGallery, download, then open it up and search for all your favourites.

     

    The pre-installed Huawei AppGallery still has a lot of the top apps available including Depop, TikTok, Microsoft Office and many more. It also includes download links for apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp, should one choose not to use MoreApps. These can be downloaded directly from the application's official website.

     

    Huawei has also introduced Huawei Petal Search - a widget search tool that allows you to find everything you're looking for right from your homescreen.

    If you cannot find an app in HUAWEI AppGallery, try the below options:

     

    1) Using Huawei Phone clone App can bring over most of the UK top apps

     

    2) You may also try using the app’s website to access a download link or try using the Web Browser version

     

    3) Please add the app name to Wish list within AppGallery. We will then notify you when this app is available in Huawei AppGallery.

    Huawei’s new handsets are not compatible with Google Mobile Services (GMS).  However, all Huawei smartphones come pre-installed with the Huawei AppGallery and easy-to-use apps such as Huawei Browser, to easily browse the web, and Huawei Cloud, for safe and secure cloud storage.

     

    Google services such as YouTube and Google Maps, can be used via the Huawei Browser, simply by visiting the destination web page online
