Design and display

Elegant styling

HTC has evolved its all-metal designs to create the One A9. A single piece of aluminium is carefully shaped to create a smooth, thin smartphone that fits perfectly in your hand and looks beautifully elegant.

Crisp, bright screen

Your movies, photos, games and everything else will look great on 5-inch Full HD screen. It uses AMOLED technology to give brighter colours and deeper blacks, making everything look more lifelike.

Camera

Professional photos

The new 13MP camera on the HTC One A9 takes some great photos. And if you know a bit about cameras, its pro mode will let you get even better shots. You can take control of all the settings, just like you can on a professional camera.

Smooth video

The One A9 has a couple of things that’ll really help you take home movies to the next level. Optical image stabilisation stops the camera jerking as you move, and Hyperlapse mode lets you create smooth time-lapse videos.

Bright selfies

Round the front of the One A9 is a top-quality selfie camera. It uses HTC’s UltraPixel technology to create brighter, clearer photos by letting in more light.

Under the hood

Efficient power

There’s a really powerful chip keeping everything running smoothly on the One A9, but it doesn’t drain a lot of power. That’s because it can run at two speeds – one for when you need the best performance for games and movies, and one for when you’re doing simple stuff like making a call.

All day battery

Squeezed into the thin frame of the One A9 is a pretty big 2,150mAh battery. Teamed with the efficient processor and Android Marshmallow software, that battery lasts for ages so you can happily get through a full day without recharging.

Fingerprint security

HTC has given the One A9 a handy fingerprint scanner. It works quickly and accurately to give you instant, secure access to your phone – and it doubles as a home button too.

Hi-res audio

Music sounds better in high resolution, so HTC One A9 has built-in 24-bit audio support. That means you’ll hear higher treble and deeper bass – you don’t even have to upgrade your headphones.

Android Marshmallow

The Android Marshmallow operating system brings loads of handy new features and improvements, like Doze, which helps save your phone’s battery when you’re not using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kibbles from Love it! Previously had Desire 500, which was fine for several years. "Upgraded" earlier this year to a Desire 626 which was actually far worse in quality and performance (and the camera was rubbish). Eventually dared (I'm very conservative) to buy the One A9 and oh my gosh ! Should have started with this one. Camera is amazing quality, with decent amount of shooting and editing options. It is not packed full of useless pre-loads so I can actually download the apps I want to use, battery life is great, feels good in the hands, works super fast.... just perfect. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Melglee from Htc rules! Having switched from HTC to Samsung last time I upgraded I thoroughly recommend switching back to HTC. Never had any issues with HTC and the One A9 model is aesthetically pleasing as well as lightweight and easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nikki W from Pretty good so far I was a bit wary given the gimmicky fingerprint recognition thing, but it works well and you can set it for more than one finger, and you have a couple of different options for a fallback in case you can't use the fingerprint, so I'm happy enough with it. You can even set it up so Google Play uses your fingerprint for verification on purchases, rather than a password, which speeds things up there too. Overall it seems like a good phone, familiar enough in interface that I switched from my Galaxy S3 pretty easily. I do have some trouble with how responsive the screen and buttons are -- it keeps cancelling out of screens by accident. I'll probably get used to that, though, and stop making extraneous movements that cause it. Battery life is fairly average for a smart phone, and there's a bunch of options for easily conserving power. The advertised 16 hours is about right if you're going to use apps, etc. It does heat up amazingly hot if you're using it for a while, and that probably feels more so because of the metallic surface of the back. Doesn't seem to cause any performance problems.
