Design and display

High definition screen

The Sony Xperia XA1 is fronted by a 5-inch HD display, stretching right up to the rounded edges of the handset.

It’s bright and clear showing off every detail of your photos and videos, and makes for the perfect handheld movie theatre when using the likes of Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Premium design

The XA1’s compact design makes it simple to hold and use in just one hand, and it’ll fit nicely in your pocket.

Camera

Seriously impressive sensor

A 23MP camera is on board to make sure can always get the best photos and videos. And with a large f/2.0 aperture, letting in loads of light, getting great shots at night is a breeze too.

Perfect selfies

The 23mm wide-angle front-facing lens lets you get the whole gang in the frame. And at 8MP, all your photos will look pin sharp.

Under the hood

Smooth user experience

The XA1 has an octa-core processor on the inside, which will make sure you won’t be slowed down while using big mobile games or streaming films online. It’s backed up by 3GB RAM, and there’s 32GB of internal storage as standard.

Smart battery

A 2,300mAh battery will keep you powered up all day long, but if you do find yourself nearing the red, you can turn on Sony’s STAMINA Mode. It limits some of the more power-hungry parts of the XA1, to keep you going for longer.

Sony Xperia XA1 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 185.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 months later 3 months later after buying 3 of these handsets. 2 are still in excellent working order but sadly one had developed the dreaded screen fault with one side totally in responsive. However due to an error on the carphones side we were offered an immediate exchange instead of a repair so still have to give 5 stars for the way the issue was handled. On the other hand the XA1 is still a great phone. All phone can develop faults at the end of the day. I was offered an exchange for a different phone but was more than happy to stick with this handset.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice handy phone New purchase, all apps seem to work great. Phone does as it should. Unfortunately I had to pay £10 extra for top up which I didn't even receive. Had to mess about in my own time getting this sorted out with the network provider

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unresponsive screen issues within 6months My husband and I both have this phone and normally love Sony Xperia but less than 6 months in the screens are unresponsive and after a function test none of the edges on mine work. This means the menu /notification bar at the top can't be dragged down, the back button barely works and the return to homepage and close all open apps doesn't work at all so my battery drains fast because the only way to close all open apps is to restart the phone. Do not waste your money and get stuck for 2yrs with this awful thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable Bought the phone end of March, at first the experience was positive. The software was automatically updated to Oreo and that was when things began to change. The touchscreen started to become unresponsive especially the letter p and backspace, the screen would not pull down. The phone was returned to store and has now been seen by the service engineers who have replaced the screen with a new unit. One week on and the screen is starting to show the same symptoms as previously, becoming difficult to select the letter p so it does not look good for long term life of this product. Forums on the net are listing this as a known issue across the world but so far no response from Sony, this is surprising from a company who have a good reputation for quality. We were offered another repair as the store manager doesn't think the problem is evident on our phone but having to travel back and forth and swapping sims is time consuming. We will continue to use the phone until the fault is obvious then change it for another make.
