Design and display

Ready for anything

The BlackBerry Motion is a hardy device, with its anti-scratch display, coated in layer of nano-diamond crystals. It’s also the first BB device to be protected against water and dust, with an impressive IP67 certification.

Big and beautiful

A 5.5-inch display fronts the smartphone, with the home button underneath, emblazoned with the iconic BlackBerry logo. You’ll be able enjoy top quality visuals with the Full HD resolution, making movie-watching on the go that little bit more enjoyable.

Camera

Wide aperture for better shots

A 12MP camera is mounted on the back of the smartphone for photos and videos you’ll be proud to show off. There’s a wide f/2.0 aperture to let in loads of light, and a dual-tone LED flash so you can get great photos at night too.

Wide-angle selfies

You’ll have no problem getting all your friends in a selfie together with the BlackBerry Motion’s wide-angle front-facing lens. The 8MP camera has an 84-degree field of view, so you can leave that old selfie stick at home.

Under the hood

BlackBerry’s biggest battery ever

At 4,000mAh, the Motion lays claim to the largest battery ever put inside a BlackBerry smartphone. With such a large capacity, you’ll be able to get around two-day worth of usage. And when it does come time to power up, you won’t be waiting around for long with USB Type-C fast charging.

Powerful processor

Alongside the impressive battery, there’s a 2.0GHz octa-core processor and 4GB RAM for a speedy user experience. You’ll never be slowed down when watching high-res films or playing your favourite games, and with such a large screen, you’ll be able to use two apps at the same time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really effective replacement for iPhone 6S My trusty iPhone 6S was well and truly nerfed by iOS 11, in that its battery life halved and several aspects of the iOS platform that have bugged me for years - most obviously the notification system - seemed to have been made even worse. Coupled with the fact mainstream iPhone designs have become copy-and-paste versions of each other for some years now, and the fact the iPhone X is too expensive by half, meant I was done. The Motion provides a familiar refuge for any recovering Apple addict, in that it has a physical home button with integrated fingerprint sensor on the bottom lip. Most other droid devices I'd tried have the sensor on the flip side, which necessitates picking the device up from the desk/bag/wherever each time you want to glance at it, which I found cumbersome. I'm someone who leaves the phone on the desk next to me, and having to continually pick it up is a drag. Then there's the BlackBerry Hub. This allows you to do something that will be familiar to any BlackBerry user of old: see every message in one place. All email, third party messaging apps (Skype, WhatsApp etc.), call logs, text messages and so on, are listed chronologically and colour coded for easy identification. I'd forgotten just how useful a thing this was. It also has the longest lasting battery I've ever come across. I'd describe my usage as medium heavy business, meaning 100-200 emails and messages throughout the day, with the occasional browsing and little in the way of games/media. I have messaging apps running the whole time, and at least four email accounts in the BlackBerry hub, and you know what? It lasts anywhere up to three days between charges. Couldn't be happier. The camera is on a par with my old iPhone. No, it's not going to win any awards alongside high end devices costing three times as much, but to my mind it still takes great shots indoors and out - certainly much better than any BlackBerry I've used previously. Unless you're an amateur photographer looking to take snaps to print out and frame, I'd say you'd be more than pleased. The phone construction is plain, robust and water resistant, and for the first time in ages I've not bothered spending extra on a case. Though the iPhone is nicely designed, it always felt too smooth, too slippery, too delicate and too scratch-prone to leave out in the open, but I have no such qualms with the square shouldered BlackBerry. In essence, then, if you want a tool that helps you stay on top of messaging, rather than a games console or a window to social media, look no further.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value and most reliable Android phone Ignore Blackberry's history, this phone is my favourite Android yet and at this price it's amazing. No anti-virus needed either and the free software is really good and doesn't use hardly any memory.
