Keylock

Keylock stops your phone's keypad from working so you don't make calls by accidentally pressing buttons.

The way you turn keylock on varies from phone to phone. With many you can turn on keylock by going to the main menu and pressing *, or by pressing the * and # keys at the same time. Look in your phone's user guide for the correct way to turn on keylock.

Keylock may not stop the power off button from working, and will not stop emergency call numbers from being entered.

PIN or PUK

PIN 1
If you enter your PIN incorrectly too many times, you won't be able to use your mobile.
To get it back up and running, you need to get a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK).

Call your service provider to get a PUK.
Don't try to guess the PUK - if you enter the wrong PUK too many times, you may have to get a new SIM.

More about your PIN

A PIN protects your mobile - it means nobody can use your mobile unless they know your PIN. Some mobiles also have a PIN2, which acts as a second layer of protection.
To set up a new PIN to protect your mobile, look in your mobile's user guide.
If you forget your PIN, call your service provider.
To deactivate your PIN, look in your mobile's user guide.

Voicemail PINs

You use your voicemail PIN to access voicemail on your mobile. Setting a voicemail PIN also allows you to access your mobile voicemail from a landline, another mobile phone or when you're abroad.

You should change your PIN as soon as you setup voicemail to stop other people listening to your messages.

IMEI

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. An IMEI is a unique 15-digit number given to every mobile phone and works like a car number plate to identify your from other phones.

You can find your IMEI by dialling *#06# on most models. It is also usually printed on the compliance plate under the battery.

Please keep a note of your phone’s IMEI in case it is lost or stolen.

IMSI

IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscriber Identity. The IMSI is used by network providers to identify their subscribers, track the location of their phones and assign call charges. The IMSI is stored on your mobile’s SIM card.

Handset security code

Handset security codes stop your phone being used by other people. They’re different from PIN codes as they protect your phone rather than your SIM card.

If you use the handset security code to lock your phone, many models will ask you to enter the code before you can answer a call. You can also set some models to ask for the code before your can change the SIM card. It is possible to change your handset security code, but it's important you don’t forget your new one.

The default code for your handset varies between manufacturers - try this if you are asked for a security code and have not yet set one up. You can get your default code by contacting your manufacturer.

If you enter the your security code wrongly too many times you’ll need to get a master reset code to unlock your phone. Contact your network service provider to get this.
