Mobile World

Mobile World has some impressively low call charges for international calls. You'll find we're cheaper than using BT and the major mobile networks, too. We're also more convenient than buying Phone Cards, which makes Mobile World the perfect solution for keeping in touch with friends and family who are overseas. Previously Mobile World customers had to dial a 2 to make an international call, although this is no longer the case.

For example, if you wanted to call 1 212 976 1616 (a telephone number in the USA), you need to dial 00 1 212 976 1616. Please remember on Mobile World, you'll be cut off if you run out of credit during an international call, so check your balance before you make any lengthy calls.

	Enter the telephone number you want to call Remember to use the full number and area code, even if you're calling someone who's just round the corner. There's no 'dialling tone' on mobile phones, so you won't hear anything yet.

	Hang up when you've finished Remember to end the call when you've finished. On most mobile phones you press a red 'handset' key to hang up.

Don't worry, we won't cut you off if you run out of credit during a UK call. This means your mobile account may become slightly 'overdrawn' on occasions, so we'll deduct any extra call charges from your next top-up. When your account reaches zero, you won't be able to make any more calls until you top-up again.

A standard text message can include up to 160 characters. Some mobiles let you send messages of more than 160 characters by breaking the message into shorter parts that are reassembled when they arrive on the recipient's mobile. Clever, eh? If your mobile lets you do this, you'll be charged for the number of separate messages you send. By the way, receiving a message from another mobile phone is completely free.

Sending a message
Your mobile's user guide will include full instructions about sending text messages. You usually need to select the 'message' option on your mobile phone, then select the 'write message' option. You can then use your mobile's keypad to type your message. When you've finished, enter the recipient's telephone number and select the 'send' option.

Receiving a message
When you receive a new message, your mobile phone will usually display an envelope symbol. If your mobile is switched off when someone sends you a message, the network will deliver it when your mobile is switched on again.

Your SIM card stores up to ten messages. When your SIM card is full, you may not be able to receive any new messages until you delete some of the old ones, although some mobile phones are able to store additional messages.

Whenever voicemail has a message for you, a special voicemail symbol will usually appear on your mobile's screen. (The symbol looks like two reels of recording tape). To connect to voicemail and listen to your messages, simply hold down the 1 key for a couple of seconds. This may be a different key on some phones - just look for the voicemail symbol on the keypad.

Calling voicemail costs less than making a standard UK call. Of course, you're not charged when someone leaves you a message; you only pay when you call the voicemail service yourself.
