The Sony Ericsson C510, also known as Kate, is getting closer to release as a wave of pictures has spread over the internet.

The anticipated handset, which incorporates a 3.2megapixel Cyber Shot camera within a sleek device packed with various other features, is due to hit the stores in February this year – just in time for when wallets are recovering from Christmas.

The smartphone employs a wealth of capabilities that will see it competing healthily with rival offerings such as Nokia’s N-series, Apple’s iPhone and some of Samsung’s more powerful designs. Appearing in both black and silver models, the C510 offers up an impressive camera with auto-focus and a dual LED flash.

Photographs and video clips will be displayed on the handset’s 2.2 inch QVGA screen and can be stored on 160GB of internal memory. The phone will allow users to quickly download and upload files from YouTube, making use of the video camera all the more tempting – whilst face detection and a smile shutter add ease of use to the snapper.

The Sony Ericsson C510 could be a welcome addition to the company’s line-up. The global recession has seen all of the major mobile phone makers hit with poor sales and difficulty in sustaining manufacture. Sony Ericsson in particular had already seen flagging popularity as companies like Nokia, Research in Motion – creator of the BlackBerry – and Apple soar ahead.

However, with the arrival of its much-anticipated Xperia X1 and its continual growth towards better camera-focused phones, the company could see a comeback within a struggling market.
