Android 2.1 gives you 5 homescreens to play with, instead of 3, so there's now more room for your favourite apps, contacts, games and widgets. You can now personalise your smartphone with live wallpapers that dance, leap and react to your fingertips. You get 720p HD video recording at 24 frames per second, and an improved camera with continuous autofocus. The new Social Phonebook automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook, so you can always see the latest updates and photos from your friends. The new back up and restore app will automatically back up your music, pictures, messages and any apps you've purchased from Android market, so if you ever accidentally remove them or lose your phone, it's easy to reinstall all of your most important content and information.

Android 2.1 makes it easier to add pictures, audio, text and numbers to your messages. You can now add more than one email address to your phone, and download a wider variety of apps to your device. You also get embedded Bluetooth, for the wireless transfer of music, photos, contact cards and documents between devices. The new Social Phonebook automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook, so you can always see the latest updates and photos from your friends. The new back up and restore app will automatically back up your music, pictures, messages and any apps you've purchased from Android market, so if you ever accidentally remove them or lose your phone, it's easy to reinstall all of your most important content and information.
How do I upgrade my Xperia X10 family smartphone?
Please note: before you begin the update process, back up your phone.
If you bought your Sony Ericsson X10, X10 mini or mini pro after the end of October 2010, it is likely that your phone already runs Android 2.1. To check the version of Android on your phone, open the settings menu and select 'about phone' to view software information.
If your X10 family phone currently runs a previous version of Android, you will be prompted to download the upgrade as soon as it becomes available, via a notification that will appear in your status bar.
When you receive the notification, simply plug your smartphone into your PC via the charge & sync cable that came with it, and use the Sony Ericsson PC Companion software on your computer to complete the upgrade.
You will be prompted to follow a few steps so please make sure that you read all of the onscreen instructions carefully and that you don't miss out a step.
