Finnish mobile giant Nokia has launched its new Nokia N79 Active handset, which comes equipped with a wireless Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt from Polar, the leading sports instruments and heart rate monitoring brand.

The new mobile phone, part of Nokia's Nseries range, offers A-GPS tracking and an updated version of Nokia's popular Sports Tracker application, which lets users record and publish exercise routes and fitness information on the internet. A 4GB microSD card memory slot means that consumers will be able to upload plenty of music tracks for long fitness sessions, which can be shared over the web.

In addition, the Nokia N79's built-in five megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics lets you take pictures of your jogging routes and upload or geotag these images online. Juha Kokkonen, Nokia Nseries Director, said: "The Nokia N79 is all about fun and fitness. This handset keeps you entertained on those long workouts as you get in shape for next summer... "This is an inspiring way to track your progress and to challenge yourself and fellow workout partners."

Marco Suvilaakso, Executive Director of Polar's Sports Business Area, addedL "Now with the Nokia N79 Active, the comfortable Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt takes the guess-work out of training. "When you can objectively see how hard your body is working, you can enjoy working out with a whole new level of confidence." Nokia has received global plaudits for its Nseries handsets, which include the N96 and N78.

The Nokia N79 is expected to be available in selected markets at a price of €375, before taxes and subsidies.
