Samsung has launched a new movie download service for mobile phones and PCs. Samsung Movies allows users to buy or rent more than 500 films, which can be viewed online or downloaded. So far, the service is only available to download onto PCs that run on Windows and Samsung's flagship Tocco Ultra Edition touch screen handset. However, the company claims that it aims to roll out to other devices in the near future. Movies available from the film download store include high profile blockbusters like Iron Man and The Dark Knight, as well as British gangster flick RocknRolla. Samsung has struck deals with high profile film studios, including Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, Momentum and Universal, in order to provide the service. Movies to rent are priced from £2.49, while films can be bought from as little as £4.99. According to Samsung, the Tocco Ultra Edition offers four hours and 20 minutes of continuous movie viewing on full charge, giving users the ability to watch two films back to back. Nick Turner-Samuels, Head of Content at Samsung Mobile UK, said: "Movies direct from the Hollywood Studios showcase our new Samsung touch screen phones such as the Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition with its industry leading high quality AMOLED screen. "We're very excited to be able to provide existing and future customers access to their favourite movies and TV shows across a number of different Samsung platforms. On top of this, it's all in superior picture and sound quality to the standard currently available in the market." Samsung Movies can be accessed at www.samsungmovies.com and will initially be rolled out in the UK and Germany. Release to further European markets is being scheduled for later in 2009. |
