Nokia pledges $10m for apps with Adobe Developers have been offered big rewards as an incentive to write mobile applications from big companies Adobe and mobile manufacturer Nokia.

The applications would run on Flash Player and AIR across a variety of devices. At an announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Spain, both companies unveiled the $10m (£7m) fund that will assist in the development and marketing of applications that they hope will further the Open Screen Project. Details about who is eligible for a grant are expected to be announced later at the show.

Adobe and Nokia are to determine the allocation of grants, and they hope that fellow Open Screen Project members will also add funds to the grant. The Open Screen Project was created by Adobe last May, and is an alliance to advance Flash and AIR on a broad variety of devices. Other members of the alliance include LG Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Verizon, the BBC and NBC Universal.

In order to demonstrate its versatility, Adobe is expected to display the Flash Player 10 on the Symbian-powered Nokia 360, Android, and smart phones that run Windows Mobile. According to the Register, Adobe's director of technology strategy, Anup Murarka, said he expects the Flash 10 plug-in to be available for three browsers by the end of the year. He said there are also: "a number of other players who are anxious to see it and do the engineering on their platforms as well." Adobe also announced plans to release a new version of PDF for mobile devices that will make it easier to read books and online content on smart phones.

The new Adobe Reader is expected to let you zoom in and pan around pages which will re-size to fit the screen.
