Some days have passed now since the end of Mobile World Conference in Barcelona and this year's event has shown to be one of the most exciting yet for the development of the mobile phone industry.

From the announcement of a plethora of new phones toting Google's Android operating system to innovations ranging from the weird to the wonderful - take LG's planned wristwatch phone and the upcoming universal phone charger that switches itself off once the device has been charged - MWC was brimming with bright ideas. At this week's conference, the second ever Google phone was revealed and will be known as the HTC Magic - created by the same company as Google's inaugural mobile venture, the G1.

This device, however, will run exclusively with Vodafone, allowing another network operator the chance to shine alongside G1 operator T-Mobile - much to T-Mobile's chagrin. A surprise came towards the end when the awards ceremony rolled around. We might expect any one of the most popular manufacturers in the world - Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony Ericsson - to pick up the prize for best mobile, or maybe Apple with its 3G iPhone or any one of Research in Motion's BlackBerry progressions, but a comparatively unknown manufacturer topped the polls for the "Best mobile Handset or Device Award".

INQ's INQ¹ beat the rest to win as best device, for its deep-level Facebook integration, excellent user interface and respectively low pricing. The plaudit could see a bar-raising for other developers as they strive to ensure that their upcoming models this year are prize-worthy themselves.
