LG unveils new wristwatch mobile phone South Korean mobile phone maker LG has unveiled a revolutionary new wristwatch phone at this week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The watch phone - dubbed the LG GD910 - will have touchscreen capability and use a Bluetooth headset and built-in speaker to carry out calls. In addition, the device will include an incorporated video and music player, as well as high-speed internet access. The wristwatch mobile phone is expected to be released before Christmas 2009 and will be available exclusively through mobile network operator Orange. While pricing details have not yet been released, industry experts believe that the LG GD910 will cost around £100 and will be available on an 18-month contract. Dr Skott Ahn, LG's president, said: "Our new 3G Touch Watch Phone is stylish, sophisticated and the height of technology, but it is also undeniably fun. "LG is the first company to introduce a mobile phone with the wearable device technology. We will continue to develop category-creating products to form a new market, based on our technological leadership and design capability." According to the Telegraph, Yves Maitre, senior vice president at Orange, added: "This phone really manages to combine form with functionality, and its chic styling and mobile broadband connectivity will no doubt appeal to all the early adopters out there. "It is a great addition to our range, showing that we can give customers the latest in high-tech design for a totally new kind of multimedia experience." The announcement was made at this year's Mobile World Congress, an annual exhibition for the global mobile phone industry. Other high-profile announcements made at the show include a solar-powered phone from Samsung, a 12.1 megapixel camera phone from Sony Ericsson and a new Windows Marketplace from Microsoft. |
