The Effective monthly cost helps you to compare the total amount you'll pay for different deals, including those with an upfront cost, cashback, or bill credits, helping you find the best value deal.
The Effective monthly cost is NOT the amount that will be taken from your bank account by direct debit every month (this is the “Monthly cost”).
Included in the Effective monthly cost figure is:
For example. A contract has an upfront handset cost of £50. The contract is 24 months long, and is £25 per month. This means the total line rental is 24 months x £25, which is £600. If there was £100 cashback, this would be taken into account too, by subtracting it from the total line rental cost. £600-£100 = £500. Add in the handset cost £50+£500 =£550 to give the total contract cost of £550. To get the Effective monthly cost, divide this by the contract length: £550/24 months, to give £22.92.
*Networks may increase Monthly price in line with Retail Price Index (RPI).

The Motorola Moto X is a unique Android smartphone that’s designed around you to make things quick and easy to use. Everything from the always-on voice control to the motion-activated camera is intuitive and simple.
The Motorola Moto X has a 2,200mAh battery that’s good for up to 13 hours of talk time, or up to 576 hours in standby mode. It’s powered by Motorola’s X8 Mobile Processing System, which has a 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a natural language processor for voice control and a contextual computing processor so you can ask it questions. Plus it runs Android™ 4.4, KitKat®. There’s a 4.7” AMOLED touchscreen with a 720p HD resolution. You’ll also get a 10MP camera and 16GB internal storage.
Using the touchscreen on your smartphone isn’t always practical. When you’re driving, cooking or stumbling around half asleep in the morning it’d be better not to have to touch your phone at all. That’s why the Motorola Moto X has always-on voice control. A unique power efficient processor means that even if the phone’s in standby mode, you can say “Ok Google Now” and give it a command without unlocking it first. You can even train your Moto X to recognise your voice. So if you’re in a busy place, it’ll filter out all the other voices.
Hands free technology is something Motorola has sprinkled throughout the Moto X. Even the screen’s been given the treatment with Active Display. It lets you see the time and your notifications, even when the phone’s in standby mode. And you don’t have to worry about it draining your battery. The AMOLED technology means it uses almost no power when it’s showing your notifications and the Moto X will automatically turn off Active Display when the screen’s covered.
When you need a camera, you usually need one quickly. With the Moto X you can be ready to shoot just by twisting your wrist twice. And because you can touch any part of the screen to take a photo, you only ever need one hand free to capture the moment. And they’ll be great photos. Your Moto X has a 10MP camera sensor and uses Clear Pixel technology to capture more light for even sharper shots. It’s also crammed with software you’d expect to find on a digital camera to help perfect your photos.
