Sony Xperia Z2 (Sirius) camera details leak

Feb 10, 2014

Sony looks set to replace the Xperia Z1, possibly at Mobile World Congress (MWC) at the end of February. Now, a couple of screenshots apparently show some details of the new phone’s camera.

The new images show that the Xperia Z2 will have the same 20.7MP camera as the Z1, but with a couple of new modes. Firstly, you’ll be able to take higher resolution photos with a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. On the Z1 you could only take 8MP photos in this fairly standard resolution, whereas the Z2 looks to be able to take 15.5MP shots.

Videos should also get better, as the screenshots show you’ll be able to shoot Full HD video at 60 frames per second, which will make everything look a lot smoother.

Pictures leak of a new version of the Sony Xperia Z1

Jan 20, 2014

Live photos of a new Sony phone have leaked online. The phone has the model number D6503 and could be a slightly refreshed Xperia Z1 or the rumoured Xperia Z2.

There are a few minor design tweaks like thinner bezels around the screen, a new speaker grill and new positions for the SIM and microSD trays. It’s a lot of design changes if it’s just a refresh of the Xperia Z1 but no specs were leaked with the photos, so it might still be the same on the inside.

It’s been suggested, though, that the thinner bezels are a sign of a bigger screen, possibly up to 5.2”, which would fit rumours of Sony’s upcoming Xperia Z2.

Sony announces Xperia™ T2 Ultra phablet

Jan 15, 2014

Sony has quietly announced a new mid-range phablet, the Xperia™ T2 Ultra. It has a 6” 720p HD screen and is only 7.6mm thick, making it one of the thinnest phablets on the market. It’s powered by a 1.4GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM. There’s also 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 32GB with a microSD card.

But its standout feature is probably its 13MP camera. It uses the same type of sensor as the Xperia™ Z1 and the 13MP resolution is much better than we would normally expect from a mid-range handset. It should, therefore, take some good photos.

Sony Sirius flagship smartphone could arrive in February

Jan 08, 2014

A new rumour from Twitter's often reliable @evleaks says Sony could announce its next flagship smartphone at Mobile World Conference (MWC) at the end of February.

Along with the expected date, the tweet has given us a few key specs. The Sony Sirius (or possibly Xperia™ Z2?) is thought to have a 5.2" display, although details on resolution and other screen tech hasn't been leaked yet. There should also be a quad core Snapdragon 800 processor like the one in the Xperia Z1. But this one could run at 2.5GHz rather than 2.2GHz.

If the announcement happens at MWC, we only have to wait until 24th February to get confirmation of these specs.

Sony Xperia Z1f screen is better than on the Xperia Z1

Jan 02, 2014

Sony is expected to launch an Xperia Z1 mini globally very soon. But the Japanese company already has one on sale in its home market and according to rumours it's identical to the one the rest of us will be getting.

Japan's Xperia Z1f has the same specs as the big Xperia Z1, but with a smaller battery and smaller screen with lower resolution.

The smaller battery is said to last longer than its bigger counterpart thanks to the small screen on the Z1f. And now that small, lower resolution screens is said to be better too, with better contrast and wider viewing angles.

If the photos that go with the report are to be believed, everything about the Z1 mini could as good as or better than on its big brother. We'll know for certain soon, as Sony is expected to show off the international Xperia Z1 mini within the next week.
