Apple files a patent that could be for the rumoured iWatch

March 14, 2014

The patent surrounds a wrist-worn pedometer, or a way for a device carried on the wrist to measure how far you’ve walked. The patent describes the wrist device though, which is perhaps the most interesting part of the patent.

The device is said to have features like GPS, temperature sensors, a "biometric sensor", a camera for both still photography and video capture, facial recognition, voice control and the ability to make calls. The patent filing goes on to say the device will have "one or more buttons, rocker switches, thumb-wheel, infrared port, USB port, and/or a pointer device such as a stylus."

That sounds very much like a smartwatch, but nothing is known for sure.
