Safer Internet Day aims to inspire the safe, responsible and creative use of technology.
This year's theme covers the responsibility that everyone has in making the internet a safer and better place. For young people, Safer Internet Day is a chance to celebrate being kind and creative online, while educators, parents and carers can help to empower young people to embrace the positive by equipping them with the digital literacy skills they require for today's world. Industry should work in partnership with others to create and promote a positive online environment for young people.
At Carphone Warehouse we work in partnership with the charity Get Connected. They are a comprehensive and trusted provider of online support for young people under 25.
As well as the common online safety issues, such as cyber-bullying, there are other issues regarding access to the right support. Some young people may come across harmful movements (such as pro-anorexia or pro-suicide) which, at a particularly vulnerable time, could put them at greater risk. Get Connected provide a gateway to over 10,000 trusted help services.
There are a number of organisations who deal with issues surrounding online safety, such as sexting, cyber-bullying and addiction to online pornography and Get Connected can put young people in touch with them, confidentially and for free.
