    Backup

  1. Download and install Samsung KIES from the official site http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP#versionInfo
  2. Open KIES and connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
  3. After the KIES software discovers your phone, click the Back up/Restore tab at the top of the screen.
  4. To make sure all your data is saved, tick the box marked Select all items. You can now move down the list, unticking anything you don't wish to save.
  5. Once you're happy with the ticked and unticked boxes, click the Backup button at the top of the screen. You will be able to monitor the progress of your backup as it completes.

    Restore to Samsung S5

Now that your data is safely secured on your computer, it's time to move it to your new smart phone.

  1. Download and install Samsung KIES from the Samsung website http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP#versionInfo
  2. Connect your S5's USB cable to your computer and connect the other end to your new phone.
  3. After the KIES software has detected your new phone you will be taken to your device's summary page. If you're restoring from a Samsung backup, click the Back up/Restore tab at the top of the page. If this is a non-Samsung phone, click on Tools from the menu bar at the top of the program.
  4. Choose Transfer data from a non-Samsung device and click Download Smart Switch if prompted. Smart Switch is the tool which helps import phone backups to your new handset.
  5. When Smart Switch starts running you will be asked to agree to the terms & conditions. Tick both boxes and click the I agree button to move on.
  6. On the next page you will be asked to pick the manufacturer for your previous phone. Choose the correct one from the drop-down list.
  7. Some manufacturer backups like BlackBerry's will require you to find the folder the backup file is stored in. Click on Select Folder if the button becomes available.
  8. If you're restoring a BlackBerry backup, navigate to the folder you made a note of during the backup process and press OK. Press Next once you're ready to continue.
  9. Once your preferred backup is selected, tick a box next to each item of data you'd like to restore to your Galaxy S5. We suggest ticking every available box but you may find items you no longer want to keep.
  10. Click Start transfer to begin the restoration.
